Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Multitool by Gerber

Not only does this tool include two knives—a fine edge, and a serrated edge knife, both of which can be used to skin and clean animals, cut ropes, and prepare food—it also includes a saw, three kinds of screwdrivers, pliers, a bottle opener, can opener, scissors, and wire cutters.

But the features of the tool don’t end just with pliers and knives. Some expensive Swiss Army knives have many of the same tools, if you’re willing to pay the price, but no other knife comes with a pair of survival pocket guides. Though very few people in the world will end up ever needing to know how survive in the wilderness, this multitool ensures that those who do will have the essentials they need, including instructions for signaling air rescue and surviving in even the harshest conditions.

Our Hands-On Review

Designed for use in the outdoors, the tool boasts “rugged construction” and a number of safety features, like Gerber’s Safe.T.Plus system locking mechanism, which keeps each component locked in their usage position. A common complaint for many multi tools is that all of the tools that share the pivot will move together – when you open the knife blade the other tools open as well – this can make it difficult and even dangerous to use the tool you need. For this feature alone people prefer Bear Grylls’ design. With the variety of tools and slim profile, it is perfect for campers, construction workers, ranchers, or anyone who needs a compact multitool around the house in their pocket or on their belt.

The one concern many users have expressed is the poor quality of the sheath design, which is prone to come apart after a few uses. The ultimate function of this product is to provide the best tools in the smallest space, and enable the user to operate them all quickly and safely. Excluding the malfunction of the sheath, the Gerber Bear Grylls Survival Series Ultimate Multitool lives up to its purpose, and for the price, it is definitely a good value multi tool for every day carry.
